Local development center in Samarkand

Local development center in Samarkand

Within the framework of the project "Support for the development of local communities for sustainable livelihoods and improvement of living standards in rural areas" under the IBPP program of the European Union, it was planned to open two new Local Development Centers (LDCs) in rural areas and to support the activities of the existing center in the Urgut region. But after the opening and presentation of the ICR in the Akdarya region, the SABR Center received a lot of calls and applications from residents of other rural areas of the Samarkand region with a request to open similar centers in their regions.

Taking into account the financial and organizational capabilities, as well as numerous requests from residents, it was decided to open the next Local Development Center in Samarkand in order to reach more young women from all regions of the region. An interested and reliable partner in this matter was the Samarkand Pedagogical College, which trains 1,500 students from various districts of the region. This idea was also supported by the Regional Department of Secondary Specialized Vocational Education. After the signing of the relevant memorandums on August 15, 2014, a Local Development Center was opened at the Pedagogical College of Samarkand within the framework of the project.

One of the objectives of the project being implemented is the development of sustainable social partnership between representatives of NGOs, local communities, authorities in order to improve and strengthen the provision of social services to vulnerable groups of the population.

The administration of the college carried out work on the preparation of classrooms and a training room along with a resource library, which were then equipped within the framework of the project with sewing machines, computers, hairdressing and pastry equipment, furniture, etc.

Currently, students of the teacher training college and women from nearby makhallas receive free professional skills at the Local Development Center - cutting and sewing, computer, hairdressing and pastry. Specialists of the Sabr Center also conduct trainings for them on effective communication, the basics of doing business and marketing, a healthy lifestyle, and the psychology of family relationships.
